Inauguration of Aruike Specialty Hospital (ASH)
They may forget your name. But they will never forget how you made them feel. – Maya Angelou
The 25th of July, 2016 was a remarkable landmark in the history of Ebe people and the surrounding communities. At first, it sounded unbelievable that a hospital of the state of art could be built in such a remote rural area. Even more incredible was the ‘rumor’ that all treatments would be received free of all costs in the hospital. This sounded so unreal to many in this part of Africa. However, this ‘rumor’ turned out to be true in reality as words went round during the first weeks of ASH operations. Patients that trooped into the hospital went home with a joy that was too hard to express in words. The Hospital was dedicated in memory of Sri Sathya Sai Baba whose inspirational humanitarian services in the area of free health medical care all over the world was the very reason for the birth of ASH. So many dignitaries from India, Singapore, the United States of America and Fiji attended the opening ceremony including the chairman of the Sri Sathya Sai Education and Health Trust, Mr. C. Srineevas. Other important personalities who were in attendance and who played major role in the building of the hospital were Mr. Madhusudan Naidu, Mr. B. N. Narashima Murthy, Mr. Issac Tigret, Ms Bhuvana Santhanam, Mr. G. R. Praveen, Mr. Ashok Pai, Mr. Ananta Rao, Mr. B. Dimitris, Mr.Sumeet Tapoo, Dr. Roshini Pillay, and Mrs Shyamini Patmanathan. The Hospital was commissioned by the State Governor of Enugu, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who was represented by the Honorable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Sam Ngwu. Also in attendance was the former commissioner of Health and Education, Dr Martin Chukwuwike. The ceremony was full of festivity, dance and celebrations as people from all works of life, local villagers and town dwellers came to witness the historic event.
